Happy Halloween!!!

Hello Everyone,

This year was all about the zombie for me (and the Frankenstein).  The following design was copied from this

There is no tutorial for these guys (because I was racing against the clock to get them done in time).

Side note...have you "like"ed me on Facebook??  NOOOOO!!!!  Well...the zombies might come to eat your brains tonight so it would be best to go Like me now.

AND if you want to carve pumpkins (and you live in Hawaii) good luck with that!  I wanted to carve a pumpkin on Saturday with Sparky.  So we went to all the stores in our town and there was no pumpkins to be seen!  I know right.  SO we made lemonade out of lemons...and used a WATERMELON!

Happy Candy Corn Day!!!

Hello Everyone,

It is October 30th and you all know what that means!!!  

CANDY CORN DAY!!!!



It is a magical day.  One in which we all get to eat the candy that you either love or hate.
 
As a kid I hated candy corn.  As an adult...I dislike candy corn.  The only time I will eat candy corn is today.  National Candy Corn Day.

Last year I made these.  This year I decided to do something different.

So let us celebrate with some soft sugar cookies, topped off with some candy corn (see win win!  If you love candy corn, eat it.  If you hate candy corn, pick it off!)

Baklava!!!

Hello Everyone,

Baklava is super duper yummy but it seems so hard to make.


Well guess what kids.  It is super easy!  Super duper easy!

First pictures and then the recipe.  Try it.  Love it.  You are welcome. 


I know something is good...when my family eats it...ALL.  By the next day these beauties were history.  THEN they asked me to make MORE.  Here is the thing, my family doesnt really like sweets (CRAZY RIGHT!!! I should disown them) so when they want more, that means they really like them. 

Here is the recipe (taken from Party Cakes - by Mich Turner)

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups finely chopped toasted pistachios
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2/3 cup unsalted butter - melted
1 lb. phyllo pastry (totally buy the frozen kind)
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
scant 1 cup water

Directions:
1.  Make the syrup.  Place the sugar and the water into a pot.  Bring to boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until thicken.  Set aside.
2.  Mix together the nuts and powdered sugar.  Preheat the oven to 323.  Line a 7x11x2 pan with parchment paper (I used 9x13).  Brush with butter (yummy!).
3.  Taking one sheet of phyllo pastry at a time, keep the remainder covered with a damp cloth.  Brush with melted butter and lay in the baking pan.  Repeat with 5 layers of dough.  Spread half the nut mixture over and press down with the back of a spoon.
4.  Add another 5 layer of pastry, brush with butter and spoon over the remaining nuts.  Cover with 5 layers of pastry.  Cut the baklava into strips and then diamonds.  Pour the remaining butter all over it. 
5.  Bake for 20 minutes, then increase the temperature to 400 and bake for additional 15 minutes until rich golden in color and well risen.
6.  Remove from the oven and drizzle the syrup over the baklava.  Allow to cool in the pan, then remove, and then eat.

Halloween Cupcake Cookies

Hello Everyone,


So it is time for Halloween items.  I am not really a Halloween type person but I got a Halloween t-shirt a year ago and always wanted to make it into cookies.

So I picked three...no four designs, and here we go!
